Stix Desserts is a new gelato place that opened on Crown Street earlier this year. Similar to the concept of the Magnum pop-up store, Stix is a gelateria that offers customisable desserts, which is an idea I found thrilling. This was my second visit to Stix this year. Although I wasn’t overly impressed with it last time, I came back because I found the concept fun and innovative. It’s quite an appealing concept for both adults and children to be able to create your own dessert to eat.
I came with my friends after a Saturday morning brunch- we were already full but saved room for desserts.
The service was warm and friendly. An upside of visiting Stix compared to other gelato places is that they offer loyalty cards- buy ten, get one free.
Going from one of the staff’s recommendations, I opted for the blood orange gelato with coconut topping and dark chocolate sauce. From memory I think it cost around $4 or $5. The blood orange sorbet had a cool, acidic tang that contrasted with the dry shavings of coconut and bitter dark chocolate sauce. I really enjoyed the contrast in flavours and textures and was happy to have taken the staff member up on her recommendation. My friends were less happy with their pickings, and stated they probably wouldn’t bother coming back here. I wouldn’t say Stix is my favourite place for gelato, but a nice dessert place to come to once in awhile.
